Idiopathic scoliosis in twins studied by DNA fingerprinting: the incidence and type of scoliosis.
We investigated 21 pairs of twins for zygosity and idiopathic scoliosis. DNA fingerprinting confirmed that 13 pairs were monozygotic and eight were dizygotic. There was concordance for idiopathic scoliosis in 92.3% of monozygotic and 62.5% of dizygotic twins. Of the 12 pairs of monozygotic twins concordant for idiopathic scoliosis, six showed discordant curve patterns but eight had differences ...
متن کاملIs Idiopathic Scoliosis Idiopathic?
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is the most common form of Idiopathic Scoliosis (IS) with a prevalence of 3% 5.2% among children [1]. Disease progression and sequelae depend on the location, severity, and rate of progression of the curve. Curves tend to progress most rapidly during growth phases [1,2]. Treatments and are focused on early bracing to stem curve progression and surgical curv...
متن کاملIdiopathic scoliosis.
Scoliosis refers to curves exceeding 10 degrees observed through posterioanterior direct radiography. In fact, the diagnosis for idiopathic scoliosis is accepted to exclude already available causes. The aim of this paper was to review the etiopathogenesis, classification systems and the treatment management of idiopathic scoliosis. A search in the National Library of Medicine (Pubmed) database ...

متن کاملMP 2.04.63 DNA-Based Testing for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
The ScoliScoreTM AIS (adolescent idiopathic scoliosis) prognostic DNA-based test (Axial Biotech, Salt Lake City, UT) is a saliva-based genetic test designed to predict the risk of progression of scoliosis in patients with AIS. The test uses an algorithm incorporating results of testing for 53 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), along with the patient’s presenting spinal curve (Cobb angle) t...
